Everything we love #everythingwelove

Salurn – The gateway to the south

South Tyrolean flair in the lowlands

Where South Tyrol meets the Mediterranean

Welcome to the southernmost village in South Tyrol! Salurn is located at the historic Salurn Pass, right on the border with Italian-speaking Trentino, and enchants visitors with its Mediterranean flair, majestic mountains and first-class wines. Here, where Napoleon, Martin Luther and Albrecht Dürer once passed through, you can expect a perfect blend of culture, nature and enjoyment.

🥾 Active & hiking

Salurn is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts! The region offers a wide range of routes 🥾 – from the historic Dürerweg trail to alpine hikes in the Trudner Horn Nature Park to climbing tours in the Garbe climbing garden. Leisurely walks among sun-drenched vineyards alternate with spectacular views of the Dolomites.

Highlights:

  • Chapel tour: Wonderful circular walk with great viewpoints and the Salurn waterfall experience
  • Spring promenade: Relaxing walk along natural springs
  • Trudner Horn Nature Park: Cross-country skiing, tobogganing and ice skating in scenic areas in winter
  • Garbe climbing garden for the adventurous

Culture is omnipresent

Salurn is history you can touch. In the winding alleys, Baroque town houses and ornate façades tell of an eventful past. Haderburg Castle 🏰 sits 125 metres above the town centre on a limestone cliff in the Geierwände mountains, transporting you back to the Middle Ages, while traditional festivals fill the here and now with music, regional cuisine and genuine hospitality. Here, culture is not just on display – it is lived.

Don't miss: The Salurner Klause – a historic narrow passage in the Etschtal valley that has been of strategic importance since Roman times.

🍇 Wine culture

Salurn is a wine village par excellence! Around 480 hectares of vineyards are cultivated today, with white wine dominating at 428 hectares. Don't miss out on the first-class South Tyrolean wines along the famous South Tyrolean Wine Road – they taste even better with a view of the majestic Haderburg Castle!

What is the ‘Salurner Klause’?

The Salurner Klause (Chiusa di Salorno) is a narrowing in the Adige Valley, which is also symbolically regarded as the language border between German-speaking South Tyrol and Italian Trentino.

Where exactly is Salurn?

Salurn (Italian: Salorno) lies at an altitude of around 224 metres above sea level and is the southernmost municipality in South Tyrol, located on the Wine Route. Salurn is around 35 km from Bolzano.
