Silandro in Val Venosta

Home in every ray of sunshine

Silandro – the heart of Val Venosta

Nestled between orchards, chestnut groves and the mighty mountain ranges of the Ötztal Alps, Silandro rises up as the lively centre of Val Venosta. Not just a market town, but a meeting place of nature and tradition. Narrow streets, historic buildings and a panorama that takes your breath away. Interesting sights include the parish church with the highest church tower in Tyrol, the Renaissance Schlandersburg Castle and the lively pedestrian zone. The region is known for its apple cultivation, the Avimundus visitor centre, the Waalwege trails and its location near the Stelvio National Park, making it a destination for cultural and active holidaymakers.

Summer colours, mountain air & lively moments

When the sun sets over the Sonnenberg, Silandro blossoms in golden tones: irrigation channels line the slopes, apple and chestnut groves smell fresh, and quiet paths lead to wonderful viewpoints.

Excursion tips:
The Ilswaal Trail starts in the sports zone of Silandro, leads along the Ilswaal through romantic forests and fruit terraces to the Ägidiuskirche church in Corces.
The Zaalwaalweg near Corces is a circular walk of approx. 3 km (about 1.5 hours), ideal for an easy afternoon tour with beautiful views over the valley.

Winter tranquillity & sparkling lights – Silandro in the magic of snow

When the first frost arrives, Silandro is transformed into a magical winter wonderland: ice skating in the heart of the village by the cultural centre, pedestrian zones decorated for Christmas, atmospheric evenings by candlelight with hot drinks. For winter sports enthusiasts, the nearby ski areas of the Ortler Ski Arena are easily accessible, while cross-country trails and small toboggan runs beckon.

Culture & Highlights

Culture in Silandro is deeply rooted – and vibrant at the same time. The tower of the Parish Church of the Assumption rises into the sky as the tallest church tower in Tyrol and is a landmark and eye-catcher. Silandro Castle, with its Renaissance arcaded courtyard, is a treasure of historical architecture. The Avimundus Visitor Centre brings you closer to the bird life of the Stelvio National Park. In addition, the Karl Schönherr Cultural Centre is a venue for a wide range of events: concerts, theatre, readings and meetings.
