Ahrntal Valley: St. Johann-Luttach
A paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers
St. Johann-Luttach - Nestled in Nature
St. Johann (1,017 metres) is the largest village in the valley and is known locally as Ahrn. Nestled among green meadows and framed by imposing three-thousand-metre peaks, the mighty dome tower and altar by artist Franz Schöpf are truly impressive. Those who feel like getting active after a feast will find ideal opportunities for sporting activities in the nearby <Klausberg and Speikboden skiing and hiking areas.
Activities for All Seasons
The holiday resort (956 m) in South Tyrol lies at the foot of mighty three-thousand-metre peaks. The picturesque backdrop around Luttach is unique: the local mountain, the Schwarzenstein, towers above the village at 3,368 metres and is one of 14 three-thousand-metre peaks in the area. Three valleys offer a variety of hiking options from spring to autumn.
In winter, winter sports enthusiasts have a choice: two ski areas beckon for skiing fun. Luttach is also popular for rafting trips and a cultural detour to the Maranatha Nativity Museum.
Cultural Ahrntal Valley
The charming village of St. Johann is the birthplace of the famous brothers Joseph Georg (poet) and Johann Baptist Oberkofler (priest painter). The Oberkofler Museum in the village centre provides insights into their lives and artistic work. Also worth seeing is the Kirchler Mineral Museum, where healing stones, minerals and special crystals from the Ahrntal mountains can be admired.
