How long does the hike to the Partschins Waterfall take?

The duration depends on where you start:

From the village of Partschins (approx. 600 m above sea level):
It takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to walk to the waterfall via the marked hiking trail no. 1. The ascent is somewhat steep, as the waterfall is located at an altitude of around 1,000 m.

From the Texelbahn valley station:
There are several options; the shortest takes around 45–60 minutes.

By shuttle bus (in season):
You can take the bus to the Birkenwald snack bar, from where it takes about 20 minutes to reach the waterfall.

How long is the Partschins Waalweg trail?

The Partschins Waalweg trail is about 5 to 6 km long and very easy to walk. It is almost flat, as it follows the old irrigation canal (‘Waal’).

Walking time: around 1.5 to 2 hours.

Start: usually at the entrance to Partschins or at Töll (near Merano).

Destination: Partschins or connection to other Waalwege trails (e.g. Algunder Waalweg).

It is therefore an easy family hike with many beautiful views of the Etschtal valley.

Is the Partschins Waalweg suitable for pushchairs?

Yes – the Partschins Waalweg is considered suitable for pushchairs, but with a few restrictions:

  • The path is mostly flat and wide, as it follows the old Waal.
  • The surface is mostly solid gravel or natural path – it can be bumpy with a normal buggy, so an all-terrain pushchair is better.
  • In some places, there are narrow passages or short sections with roots that require a little caution.
  • However, there are no steep climbs or exposed sections.

👉 Conclusion: With an all-terrain pram or buggy, the Waalweg is very accessible, even for families with small children.
