The origins of Sigmundskron castle go back to prehistoric times. Remains of a pre-Roman castle were found nearby and in the early Middle Ages it was the principal seat of the bishops of Trento who also held court hearings there. In 1473 the castle was bought by the Duke Sigismund who partially rebuilt the complex to enable it to withstand attacks by cannons, which had just been invented. The lower part of the ruins has been restored and now accommodates a restaurant and a pub. The restaurant can seat up to 120 persons and the garden 60.
