The community of St. Nikolas lies at 569 meters above sea level, and is easily recognizable by the two protective towers peering down over the small church. One of the towers was built much later around 1880 in new gothic style in order to relieve the other dilapidated tower from the strain of the vibration from the bells.
Inside the church, the high altar is designed in the new gothic style. This is where you will find a holy painting of Maria, which in 1733 is reported to have begun to cry. Since then, the painting has been an object of pilgrimage.
