The church’s original construction went back to the late Roman period, but unfortunately all evidence has disappeared today. The delicate form that you see today, with its narrow tower, was constructed from 1517 to 1520. Certain portions of the wall and several frescos are even much older. The left side alter contains valuable wall paintings from the Bozen school around 1414; incidentally, these paintings were donated by Agnes von Werdenburg, who was the widow of Heinrich von Rottenburg. The right side altar is decorated with late gothic saint figures. The choir contains a fresco of Mary’s death, which dates back to around 1400.
In 1912, the church was re-furnished in the new gothic style.
