The church originally belonged to the order of the Knights of St. John. It was acquired by the Annenberg family in 1337 who had it rebuilt in a uniform style between 1470 and 1517. The late Gothic altar (1524) by the Swabian master Jörg Lederer is one of the finest altarpieces in all Südtirol. The paintings of the Passion of Christ on the exterior are by Jörg Mack.
