Klausen

Klausen: the romantic city of artists
In 1494, an artist the calibre of Albrecht Dürer had already fallen in love with the town of Klausen/Chiusa, immortalising his impressions in the engraving Das große Glück.
From then on, Klausen`s charm has attracted numerous artists and poets, who have painted and sung its praises. The picturesque town extends between the Sabiona fortress and the Isarco river, with its beautiful coloured facades rising next to each other and dominated by Gothic churches. Here, hotels steeped in tradition have been welcoming famous guests for centuries and for some time, the road from Brenner/Brennero to the South ran right through the centre of town.
The legendary Loreto treasure has found safe haven in the ancient convent of the Capuchins, which shouldn`t be missed, just like the art gallery and the modern museum gallery.
Enjoy a fantastic view over the city and the valley below from the pass of the Capuchins, right next to the convent and garden.
The charming countryside entices visitors to take hikes and discover the natural wonders. Old roads run past the Branzoll hamlet and continue to the Sabiona Monastery and then Pradello, up to Verdignes and Lazfons, until the splendid village of Gudon. Then up, up to the old farmsteads, the luxuriant meadows and thick forests. Klausen/Chiusa and its environs have numerous admirers and are the ideal vacation spot.
