St. Justina Kirche - S. Michele

St. Justina Kirche - St. Michael - Eppan

City:
St. Michael - Eppan (BZ)

Where?

Above St. Pauls, on a idyllic path in the middle of vineyards the little church St. Justine is situated.

History:

Around the year 1300 family Boymont erected at the mentioned place a little church. The new churchman moved to St. Justine in the 18th century and cared for Perdonig - his former parish - from there.

Architectural style:

There remained some parts of the entrance wall and some wall paintings in the east from the roman times. Further architectural styles are the Baroque and the late Gothic of the tower and the windows. The roof has the look of a pyramid. From 1645 to 1649 an extension happened to the building.

Characteristics:

A remarkable carved altar as well as pictures and reliefs from 16th and/or. 17th century draws the attention of the viewer on itself. The early gothic gravestone of the family `von Boymont´, which is to be seen city museum of Bozen, comes from this place.

Hiking trails:

A pleasant walk to the Paulser Aich or from Eppan/Berg in direction St.Pauls leads us past the pretty little church. Also a hike to Perdonig or to Boymont and Festenstein, Hocheppan and the Korb Castle (starting in St. Pauls) can include a visit of St. Justine. We would recommend the hotel-restaurant St. Justinahof as starting point.
