Parish Tower - Caldaro

Parish Tower - Kaltern

Street:
Marktplatz
City:
I-39052 Kaltern (BZ)

The bell tower, with its gothic origins, stands just west of the parish church. The lower levels of the tower date back to the 14th century and it is one of Kaltern's true symbols. An engraved relief with the coats of arms of Tyrol’s dignitaries, Albrecht von Wolfstein and Berchtold von Gufidaun (1353 - 1373) reveals important information as to the various stages of construction. Presumably, either the Augsburg master builder Burkhard Engelberg, who was also the developer of Bozen’s parish tower, or his colleague, Jakob Zwitzel, planned the completion of the tower around the year 1500.
