Built originally in 1271 the church was gradually converted into the Gothic style over the subsequent two centuries with the help of Swabian masters. The stone statue of St. Nicholas in a niche in the external wall is a masterpiece of Tyrolean Gothic sculpture dating from 1350. Inside, the church is arranged in three naves and the whole complex is structured strictly in accordance with Gothic standards. The 15th century altarpiece is of interest as well as the small octagonal chapel dedicated to St. Barbara with its Gothic altarpiece.
