Dom Maria Himmelfahrt - Bozen

Dom Maria Himmelfahrt - Bozen

City:
Bozen (BZ)

One of the very first vaulted Gothic churches. It has been an episcopal church since 1964. The architecture reveals various building phases. The late Romanesque - early Gothic nave was built in the late 13th century and became vaulted around the middle of the 14th century. The ‘Leitacher Törl’ door, now walled up, is the most splendid in all Südtirol. The Sandstone pulpit from 1514 is also noteworthy.
The faded fresco on the western wall is a curiosity: According to tradition grandparents used to throw donations into the offertory box to plead with the Madonna to help their grand children learn to talk.
